Biography

My interest in martial arts grew from an early age.  I competed and practised in Judo into my teenage years and then tried many other styles of martial arts from Ninjitsu, Wing chun and Karate.  It wasn’t until studying Physiotherapy at University that I was introduced to Tai Chi as an exercise system. Initially, I became an instructor in teaching Taoist tai chi which was a non- martial exercise version of the Yang style.

Through my training in classic Chinese acupuncture and massage, I was introduced to other types of oriental exercise such as qi gong. As a part of my massage training, I was taught Shaolin Liangong a form of exercise used to strengthen the body and prevent injury to the massage practitioner. Through my western medicine training I was able to appreciate how these ancient exercises developed healthy changes within the physiology of the body.

Through extensive research I trained with various teachers in order to advance my Qigong training. I contacted a local tai chi instructor Sifu Stuart Verity to discuss a body strengthening system called nei-gong which he taught to his senior students. From this point I was introduced to the Wudang Tai Chi Chuan syllabus as passed down from the late grandmaster Cheng Tin Hung. Through both patience and kindness Stuart cultivated my Tai Chi Roots and the Intelligence and cleverness of the martial art became increasingly apparent.

Wudang Tai Chi Chuan is an authentic martial art system with all aspects of the training still intact and not watered down. Since this point I continued to study with Sifu Stuart Verity and trained with several other accomplished teachers within the system in order to develop both the healing and martial art aspects of Tai Chi. At present I am a disciple of the Wudang lineage under the guidance of Sifu Stuart Verity and continue to train and compete in both national and international competitions achieving silver and gold medal placements in both push hands and tai chi forms.
